Leverton Businesses
|
Tuesday the 7th October 2003 was the date of the first interview with Mr 'Dickie' Dales, the owner and managing director of M G Dales Joinery situated in Sharpes Lane, Leverton. Although his name was originally Malcolm George, he was always known as 'Dickie'. This nickname was applied very early in his life, at the age of 5 years, to be precise, and came about because he fell off his pedal cycle in the school playground, whereupon all the children in the vicinity shouted 'Dickie Dales has crashed again'. The name 'Dickie Dales' was also shared by a well known, and very popular, Isle of Man T T motorcycle rider of the era. He didn't mind the name at all and in fact people still asked him if he has any of his racing motorcycles today. Of course, he didn't. Dickie sadly died in February of 2009 leaving his son, Christian, in charge of the day - to - day running of the very successful joinery side of the business, ably assisted by his joinery manager; Mr Rob Wright. The Dales Sports Floors enterprise is managed by Mr Richard Steadman - but we will return to that side of the business shortly: firstly, we will take a look at the very beginnings of the joinery business.
