The second book was easier to put together because we had 'been there' before and now knew the way. Again we took advice from Tom our printer, and with the still eager enthusiasm of our villagers we soon had enough material to assure us that it was a very worthwhile second project. The second book carries on from the first in so many different ways - farming, continuation of our village history, a family tree, more interviews of our older folks and much, much more. This all meant, though, many more hours spent in the archives poring over records, most very old but some more recent. I will never forget the feeling of exuberance when I discovered some 'gem' concerning the history of the village or one or more of our Parishioners. Last Updated (Sunday, 02 August 2009 21:29) |

From being a much younger man I had always had the ambition to write a book. What about; I hadn't any idea at that time, only that I needed to write. In 2001 I visited a lady in a neighbouring village who was involved in putting together the histories of villages along the east coast of Lincolnshire, England. I asked her if she required any help as I needed some experience in writing. She told me she had almost come to the end of her current offering and suggested, for my first attempt at putting 'pen to paper' in a more serious way, I write about Leverton, the village I was brought up in, as she knew practically nothing about this particular village. This suggestion I readily accepted and got to work. I knew it would be difficult to get a book published as there there would be high costs involved at the later stages, especially with print costs etc. Last Updated (Sunday, 02 August 2009 21:13) |
